Description
Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, Aberfoyle, Scotland. While walking through the forest on an October morning, sunlight suddenly broke through the trees and illuminated this weathered stump as mist drifted through the woodland. The light lasted only a short time, transforming an ordinary woodland scene into one full of atmosphere. Using a Canon EOS R5 with a Canon EF 24–70mm f/4L lens, I made a single exposure at 57mm, 1/30 sec and f/13. My aim was to isolate the stump within the surrounding autumn colours, using the shafts of light to draw attention to it as the focal point of the composition. The drifting mist revealed the light streaming through the trees, adding depth to the woodland and creating the fleeting conditions that first caught my attention.
