Description
This work captures me, a close-up gaze divided by glass, reflection, and distortion. One eye meets the viewer, while the other seems displaced behind a transparent surface, creating a face that feels both intimate and unreachable. For me, the image carries the unease of arriving in the UK as an international student, entering a new language, a new academic system and an uncertain future before fully knowing how to place oneself within it. The portrait moves between recognition and misrecognition, a state where being seen does not always mean being understood. Across cultural distance, not everything can be translated clearly. Some parts remain private, unstable, and unreadable.
