Description
We weren't sure whether this session would go ahead. The morning was affected by smoke from the forest fires, but I decided to continue, and I'm so glad we did. The lake was exceptionally calm, while the smoke created a subtle haze that gave the image a beautiful, atmospheric quality. Sophie spends a great deal of time on the water with her family, particularly with their 17-year-old son, who competes internationally in swimming. I wanted to capture the family's strong connection to the lake and to sport. I got into the water to photograph Sophie at her level, allowing the reflections, sunstar and movement to become part of the portrait.
