Description
Worlds Within This photograph continues my fascination with exploring the tiny worlds hidden within water droplets. Using a single dandelion seed head, I wanted to move beyond what we can normally see and capture the droplets almost as individual subjects in their own right. For this image, I used a Canon EOS R with the Laowa 1x–5x Ultra Macro lens, which let me work at extreme magnification and reveal the delicate structure of the dandelion fibers and the water suspended between them. I created the rich red and golden tones using a red-and-gold holographic card positioned behind the subject. Rather than lighting the droplets directly, I used flash to illuminate the holographic surface, allowing its warm reflections to travel through and appear within the droplets. A homemade flash diffuser helped me soften and control the light while retaining the detail and shape of each tiny sphere. What fascinates me most about extreme macro photography is how something incredibly small and ordinary can become almost unrecognizable. Looking through these droplets, I no longer see just water on a dandelion — each one feels like a tiny world of its own.
