Description
After a cold, still April night, I arrived at Broad Meadow in Tamworth before sunrise, hoping the lingering ground mist and frost would transform one of the West Midlands' few remaining native populations of snake's-head fritillaries. Overnight frost coated the flower in delicate ice crystals while the remaining mist softened the landscape behind it, allowing the rising sun to glow gently through the haze. I searched for a single bloom with a graceful shape that would stand out against the light. Using a wide aperture, I isolated the flower while enlarging the sun disc to create a soft, luminous backdrop, emphasising both the fragility of the frost and the fleeting beauty of this brief spring morning.
