On a recent holiday to Sweden and Norway we were very fortunate to see the Northern Lights on a few occasions. We had just eaten dinner when the aurora began to appear and what a beautiful display we witnessed. Our accommodation was surrounded by snow capped mountains, over 1000m high, so you really get a sense of scale. As we watched the bands of green develop they began to contort until this amazing swirl formed. The foreground was lit by the bright moon yet the aurora was still so bright it was easy to see the shape and colour with the naked eye. A real privilege to witness. This is a single shot exposure which I cropped to simplify the scene.
