Description
I wanted to use the in-camera double exposure technique to tell a story within the image. The idea that “love grows” came to me while photographing a couple at sunset in the fields of Ashton Court in Bristol. I made a silhouette portrait of the couple and then double exposed it with the long grass surrounding us, allowing the two elements to merge together. As I made the exposure, two hot-air balloons were rising in the distance, creating an unexpected symmetry within the frame. For me, the grass growing around them became a visual metaphor for love — something that takes root, grows and becomes intertwined with the people we share our lives with. The balloons were a beautiful, unplanned addition to the story, giving the image a feeling of freedom, possibility and new beginnings.
