Cairngorms, Scotland
Nikon z6III + 28-400mm lens
In July 2026 a fire started in the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands. It quickly turned into a major wildfire affecting some of the most precious natural habitat in the country. Fanned by extreme drought and winds - the fires were relentless, but so was the response, from the front line to the wider community support. While part of a volunteer response team to tackle the fire and work on eliminating hotspots I took my camera a long with me to document what I could. This is a place I photograph regularly; I consider the forest part of my home. Many of the root plates of old granny pines had suffered serious damage and will likely not survive. A painful sight repeated many times over in the landscape beyond.
