Description
Inside Grundtvig’s Church in Copenhagen, a solitary figure stands almost weightless within the immense rhythm of brick arches. The architecture appears permanent, built to outlast the individuals who pass through it while the light exists only for a moment. Yet it is this temporary light and the small human presence within it that gives the monumental space its scale. For me, A Measure of Light is about the tension between permanence and transience. Architecture measures the body by making it appear small; the body in return gives the architecture meaning and proportion. Light connects the two, briefly revealing that scale is not only physical but also a way of understanding our place within something larger than ourselves.
